A visit to the South Fayette Little Lions’ Preschool is always full of surprises. Among the many activities this fall for the four-year-olds in the popular program were visits from Oakridge Firefighters to teach the students fire safety and prevention and guests from the Pittsburgh Zoo who taught the children about a variety of animals, from turtles to chinchillas – and even brought along a few furry friends for the children to see up close and personal.

While the second half of the year will soon be underway, we are already making plans for the 2008-2009 school year. Preschool registration for the 2008-2009 school year will be held on January 21st in the high school building in Room FA226, from 7-9 a.m. The classes will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. To register, the child must live in South Fayette and be four by September 1, 2008.

There are four classes. One class meets Monday – Wednesday and every other Friday, while the other class meets Tuesday – Thursday and opposite Fridays. The morning class is from 8:15 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. and the afternoon class is from 11:25 a.m. to 1:50 p.m. There is a $75 NON-REFUNDABLE registration fee required at this time. An additional $30 will be collected in January for end-of-year expenses, including graduation expenses, a yearbook, a DVD, and the field trip. Make checks payable to South Fayette Preschool. Cash is also acceptable.

After January 21st, applications will be accepted by mail and placed on a waiting list. Please keep in mind that the class fills up quickly on registration day and the line forms early. A parent should register their child if possible. If not, a relative or friend may register them. You can register only one child unless you have twins. This eliminates the problem of one person coming early and registering friends. Only those who will be repeating the class will be registered before January 22nd.

If you would like to receive more information and the forms ahead of time, they are available in the High School, Middle School, or Elementary School office or by calling 412-221-4542, extension 520. Although no forms will be accepted early, it will eliminate the necessity of a parent being present at registration. Please bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate, official proof of immunization records, and a recent picture of your child.
