Township 2007 Abandoned Property Clean-up Program a Huge
Success
In 2006, the
Township Board of Commissioners developed an aggressive program
to identify and remediate abandoned and/or vacant structures. As
part of the program, the Township identified 21 properties that
required township intervention to ensure the health, welfare and
safety of the community.
Under the program,
the township administration actively enforces building code and
property maintenance regulations. Properties that did not or
could not come into compliance were listed in the township
annual demolition program. In 2007, six properties were placed
on the demolition schedule. Following compliance with all legal
requirements imposed upon the township regarding private
property demolition, the township contracted for the removal of
the six identified properties. The township is happy to announce
that five of the six properties identified for removal in 2007
have been demolished. In addition, the township anticipates the
removal of the sixth and final structure early in 2008. The
Township Board of Commissioners has already begun to plan for
the 2008 program. |
