Asenth Bennett Brings Years of Experience to Insurance Biz

A few years ago one of Asenth Bennett’s clients was trying to convince her husband to purchase life insurance, but the man balked, insisting he didn’t need it because he was in perfect health. The woman called Bennett, who had long been their insurance agent, and asked her to come over and talk to him. She did, and by the end of the day, the man had signed up for a policy.

Two months later, he was killed in a car wreck. Because of that policy, Bennett was able to deliver a check to the family. “That’s what I most enjoy about this job,” she says, “being able to help families during a time of need, being a liaison between them and the insurance company.”

Bennett, who has been an AllState agent for 27 years, works out of an office on Washington Pike in South Fayette, next to Colussy Chevrolet. Her years of experience in the community have allowed her to build close relationships with her clients, something often missing from the insurance business in the internet age.

“Right now an agent can purchase an internet license in Pennsylvania and get clients from all over the state, but you don’t always have that person to come into office and you don’t get to know them or their needs,” she says. “The internet is good for business, but I much prefer to speak to someone in person, than through e-mail or on the phone.”

Through the years, Bennett has seen just about every kind of insurance-related circumstance imaginable: The landlord who thinks he doesn’t need vandalism insurance because his tenants are good people (just before the apartment gets trashed). The man who doesn’t opt for the car rental reimbursement because he just bought a new vehicle (right before his new car is in the garage for a week). “The worst-case scenario for an agent is to see a client decide against a type of coverage, only to need it a short while later,” Bennett says. “They end up having to pay out-ofpocket, and you just wish you could have said something to make them understand back when they declined the coverage.” But for every insurance story gone bad, Bennett has seen countless positive endings, where she’s been able to assist people when they most need it. “That’s the great thing about doing this,” she says. “You often see people when they’re in bad circumstances, but you’re able to help them. It’s a nice feeling.”

Asenth Bennett’s office is located at 3075 Washington Pike. For more information, visit agent.allstate.com/asenthbennett or call 412-257-4481.
