High School Student Makes CCAC Dean’s List
South Fayette High School
senior Emily Cord has been
named to the Dean’s List of
the Community College of
Allegheny County. Through the
Dual Enrollment program at
South Fayette High School,
Cord took 4 courses for 12
credits last semester at CCAC
while also taking courses at the
high school. When she graduates
high school this spring, she will
have earned 33 credits towards
college graduation.
South Fayette High School
offers the Dual Enrollment
opportunity to 11th and 12th
grade students. Currently, there
are 62 students enrolled in
the 2007-2008 program. To
be eligible, a student must
have scored at least at the
proficient level on the PSSA in
math, reading, and writing;
must take placement exams at
the respective colleges; and must meet college-readiness
levels as determined at each
institution of higher learning.
While enrolled in the
program, students must
maintain the minimum GPA
required for each college
course to continue in the dual
enrollment program.
Courses taken must be in a
core content area: math,
science, English, social studies,
foreign language or fine arts.
Courses must also be taken at
an institution that has a
written agreement with South
Fayette High School. Currently
agreements exist with CCAC,
Robert Morris University, Penn
State Beaver, Carlow University
and the University of Pittsburgh.
Cord’s future plans include
one more year at CCAC before
attending Robert Morris
University to study accounting
or marketing.
