Back 2 Health

This year marks the start of my 15th year practicing in the Bridgeville area and my ninth in my current South Fayette location. It has been the foundation of my practice.

Speaking of foundations, do you prefer your homes to be solid or crumbling? Dumb question, I know, but it raises a point.Much like we want a solid foundation to support our bodies, right? Put another way, the food bone is connected to the ankle bone, the ankle bone is connected to the shin bone, the shin bone is connected to the knee bone, etc.

If one part was disconnected or out of alignment, wouldn’t it affect the others negatively? Obviously. Believe it or not, if your foot is out of alignment, it can cause low back pain, headaches or any number of other aches and pains.

A couple of weeks ago I spent a weekend learning about extremity adjusting. I have been doing extremity adjusting for years as it is a vital part of my specialization as a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician. Athletes often injure their ankles, shoulders, knees etc, and adjustments or returning the proper motion to joints is vital for their recovery. It was great to review new methods for adjusting the extremities but the best thing was learning about the latest neurological research on chiropractic. This is the reason that chiropractors have been able to help people with lots of health problems, besides just pain in the back.

All joints have receptors in them which send input to the brain. If a joint is working well it send good minimal input; if a joint is out of alignment, even if it is not causing pain, it sends bad and multiple inputs to the brain. These noisy joints take our bodies’ energies away from normal healing and repair activities. When the noisy joints are turned off, the body is better able to heal itself. This is why people may report that their allergies have eased up, their blood pressure has lowered, and their digestion has improved after seeing a chiropractor. Chiropractors help to turn down the noise.

By the way, as I said in the title, I’ve gone 15 years and haven’t been kicked yet. My friend, the dentist, has been bitten 3-4 times. Thanks for the first 15.
