SOUTH FAYETTE TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS TO GO “PAPERLESS”

In an effort to provide higher efficiency and cost reduction, the Board of Commissioners and the Township Administration are developing a program to provide for a paperless meeting packet. Historically, the Township Administration has provided all boards and commissions with an endless stream of paper, including agendas, agenda item briefings, supporting documentations, minutes and various correspondence. Starting with the March Board of Commissioners Workshop Meeting, the Administration will implement a pilot project whereby all information provided to the Board of Commissioners will be “paperless”. Under the proposed project, all commissioners will be provided with a Township lap-top computer. Packets will be electronically delivered prior to each meeting, using a software package that allows for making electronic notations, comments and editorial notes. In addition, resident will be able to view the packet information at each meeting via the projector system installed in the Commissioners Chambers in 2007. It is believed this program will result in significant savings in paper costs, reproduction costs, and staff time. If the program is successful, the township will look at expanding the program to all boards and commissions.
